Influences on a Profession of Psychology

The time: World War I. The place: The United States. The U.S. military needed to conduct mental testing in order to recruit men they considered psychologically fit for the armed services. World War II followed two short decades later, accompanied by a growing awareness of the need to take care of soldiers’ emotional as well as their physical needs. How did the field of psychology respond? What occurred within the psychology profession as a result?

Post by Day 3 an explanation of the impact of mental testing on the development of psychology as a profession during the two World Wars. Then describe one other major influence on the growth of the profession of psychology since World War II, and explain why it was an influence. Include in your explanation at least two of the challenges the profession faced and how those challenges were addressed.
